A Windy Queensland States at RQYS

We had 13 boats hit the water with Lincoln Fraser over from NZ with his crew on Dangerzone and Paul Minter with his crew on Crews Control up from Sydney. We also had Wayne Kirby and Ben Leigh-Smith with Emotional Rescue and Moneyshot up from Southport.
With a big low sitting off the Byron coast it was looking like a weekend of unsettled weather and that was what we got. With an ominous forecast for Saturday that indicated strong gusty sou'westers and rain, the Race Officer made an early call and abandoned Saturdays racing leaving 4 races to be sailed on Sunday. The one benefit was that we could enjoy watching the Lions claim their Premiership.
Sunday was supposed to produce lighter winds, but we ended up with steady 17-20 kts with gusts into the mid 20's. Even in these conditions there was great and close racing. As could be expected, there was a bit of gear damage on many boats over the day.
A well deserved win went to Grant Hudson and crew, Brian Donovan, Lucas Patrick, Mitch Kennedy, on Pegasus. Just one point back was Dangerzone with Todd Anderson and crew on TAG grabbing 3rd. Congratulations!
Thanks to the Race Committee for their effort over the weekend as well as our own fleet committee and members, with support from Sue and Donna, for their efforts in putting on what was a excellent regatta. Also a big thanks to all those that helped with the BBQ on Saturday. Finally a thank you to the sponsors North Sails and Muir Marine for their support with prizes.
