Dear Member,
Variation to Cat 7 - Anchors
Approval of Variation Document
Following a request from the Australian Executive, Australian Sailing have issued the attached variation to the requirements of the Special Regulations Part 1 Section 4, generally referred to as Category 7 Safety Prescriptions.
The variation brings the required anchor and chain into line with our International Class Rules para C. 5. 1. (a). The class rules maximises the anchor and chain at 9 kg whereas Cat 7 refers to a 7 kg anchor and 5 metres of 6mm chain which takes the total weight well over 9 kgs.
The new requirement will be in force for all Category A, B and C events hosted in Australia after 12 December 2017.
It will also be in force when we are Racing as a Class in a Club event. Most Club NoRs and SIs will refer to the hosting of Etchells events requiring the participants to comply with Class Rules. By so doing the Club is bringing the racing under Class Rules and hence the variation is applicable. Please advise your host club of this variation. It is suggested that words to the following effect be adopted in your Club’s NoR and SI
Etchells shall use anchors that are compliant with Class rule C.5.1 (a) in lieu of Special Regulations Part 1, 4.05.
If further clarification is required pleas do not hesitate to contact myself or David Clark.
All the best for the festive season and fair sailing for 2018.
