Who can believe it’s been 12 months since the Worlds last October? Facebook has been reminding us all, not just of the glamour conditions and spectacular racing, but of the carnage of the pre-worlds; what an epic few weeks that was…

Since then, the fleet has settled back into more casual racing mode, with the regulars going head-to-head on the track. We’ve also welcomed four new skippers to the fleet, namely Tony Di Betta, Cameron Pryce, Margy Porter and Todd Anderson. It is excellent to see fresh new faces joining our strong fleet.

The RQYS sailing program is going off, with the northern course filled with Hobies, VXs, Finns, 29ers, and skiffs all sharing the track. The success of these programs and keelboat fleets means finding crew can be a challenge, but it is a great problem to have.

We have also changed the management team to give Noel Patterson and David Healey a much-needed break. Their dedication to the fleet was celebrated at the end of season and as a result, the BBQ tongs have been passed to Fleet Treasurer Chris Nezmah, with chicken wings introduced to the menu.

Conditions have been typical of the spring season with plenty of 20 plus knot Saturdays that have blown the winter cobwebs well and truly away. Several of the fleet are heading to the Gold Coast this weekend for the Queensland State Championships, which will be excellent preparation for the Nationals in January. We wish all those involved a safe and successful regatta.
