Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, and the Pittwater Etchells Fleet have initiated a program to support Senior Youth Members of the club between the ages of 20-30 to develop advanced keelboat fleet racing, and program management skills, while showing commitment to the Club and Etchells fleet.

Two teams will provide potential skippers and crew for the Etchells Worlds, held in Brisbane during October 2018. One crew of three or four will be selected from each team.

One Etchells yacht will be provided to each team for training, club, State and national events, as well as the Worlds Qualifying series. The cost of storage, maintenance, sails and entry to the Worlds will be underwritten by the Youth Support Patron Group, fund raising and support from sponsors.

The Youth Support Patrons Group was formed in 2017 by senior RPAYC members, under the chairmanship of Bruce Ferguson. They are committed to facilitating an extended pathway beyond existing programs for young club members to compete at the highest possible national and international levels. The group are focused on aligning club and personal assets, as well as providing funding assistance to qualifying young sailors.

The criteria for selection of the successful application will be principally based on (in order of importance):

  1. The commitment of the team to training, competition and skills development;
  2. The competitiveness of the team, based on team makeup, team experience and the planned program;
  3. The contribution of the team to the Club and Pittwater Etchells Fleet.

Applications should be forwarded to the Sailing Office at in MS Word or PDF format. Applications close on Saturday, 1 July 2017.
