The first day of the Goblets being run by the RSYS saw a fleet of 19 Etchells enjoy a perfect summers afternoon with NE breeze around 8-12 knots on an incoming tide.

There were some new comers to the Fleet including AUS 932 Karabos with Ron Jacobs and his crew from the RPAYC and also a number of youth sailors with yachts provided by the fleet.

Cole Tapper on Adam Magpie AUS 1187 was the best on the day placing 5th and the race was won by Jean Claude in Flying High 2 followed by Matty Whitnall on Dawn Raid and Michael Bellingham on Avalon.

The race started on time and course 2 was set with an axis of 045.

The competition as always was close with the first 9 boats finishing in a minute and a half with Surprise AUS 1128 sailed by Matthew Fisk rounding out the first 9 places.

Other strong performances from Martin Hill in Lisa Rose 1449 and Doug McGain in Ciao AUS1244.

The second day of the Goblets was certainly more interesting, at 15:30 the temperature ashore was 31 degrees and there was little to no wind. In the west the dark clouds threatened the rain and change of wind to come.

The start was delayed and eventually the fleet was sent of with the top mark at 040 to allow the wind to settle around 6-8 knots. A shift to the left right at the start was also accompanied by more pressure at the committee boat making for some interesting starting tactics. For the second work the committee moved the mark left but there was not really enough harbour available to accommodate the shift and the finish was in light rain.

Dawn Raid AUS 1361 with Matty Whitnall took the gun with Jean Claude second followed by Peter Merrington on First Tracks AUS 1485.

Day three arrived with a totally different forecast. A strong wind warning had been issued by BOM and there were rolling rain clouds over the race track. Wind speed 10-12 gusting 15-20 knots. The Race Committee started on time with .85 first leg and Course 1 finishing upwind.

The race continued with variation in wind strength and direction however at the end of the day the sentiment on the dock was that it was very enjoyable and competitive afternoon. The most frequent comment was "that this is what racing an Etchells is all about".

Peter Merrington on first Tracks AUS 1485 showed the field the way from the start and took the gun followed by Ciao AUS 1244 Doug McGain with third place to Martin Hill in Lisa AUS 1449.

The point score remains wide open with strong results from Jean Claude on Flying High 2 AUS 1435 leading the way from Dawn Raid Matt Whitnall AUS 1361.

Day 4 saw racing abandoned with winds from the south at 20-30 gusting up to 33 knots.

Day 5 arrived with another strong wind warning and at around start time there were some still some strong gusts from the South reaching 25+ knots.

The fleet was keen with 18 at the start line and after general recalls and the black flag racing was under way. 16 Finished and the competition between First Tracks AUS 1485 Peter Merrington and Flying High 2 AUS 1435 Jean Claude was set to determine the regatta winner. Lisa Rose with Martin Hill's team on AUS 1449 took the gun with Merrington in second followed by Jean Claude. This left the point score tied on 6 points with Peter Merrington winning on a count back.

Tranquillity Base AUS 1377 Robert Wier followed with a for the on the day and Ron Jacobs, back in the fleet on Karabos AUS 932 rounded out the top 5 on the day.

Dawn Raid Matt Whitnall AUS 1361 took 3rd place in the regatta and first Corinthian with Martin Hill 4th and AUS 1244 Doug McGain rounding out the first five.
